It is perfectly okay to correct him by grabbing his collar and shake him back and forth like his mother did. You want to do this gently, as not to hurt him. If he goes back to it a second time, put him in his crate. He will eventually get the message.
Sometimes dog chew out of pure boredom which makes him anxious and when he get anxious he chews. Make sure that he gets enough exercise, take him for a run, play ball with him, or taking him hiking. If he is too tired to chew, he won’t.
Avoid playing games that could him encourage him to chew. That would include playing with a sock or basically putting anything in his mouth that is a no no. Play with him often, just avoid playing rough with him.
The key to your success depends on your consistency and effort. With patience on your part, this will soon be behind you. And don’t forget to praise and reward him for his good behavior.
